Good explanation of the advantages of AV

Here’s a poster explaining the advantages of AV:

Personally I think this is better than anything the official AV campaign have done. It’s concise, it explains the advantages of AV, and it doesn’t talk down to people.

UPDATE: it looks like the official AV campaign have gone for this idea in their final broadcast. Better late than never, I suppose.

Interesting argument. It does talk down to people, turning a very complicated matter into terms that children can understand. It is classic dumbing down.

Now lets change it around to say if 70% want the government to outlaw redheads, AV will make that bad magic happen, but FPTP will prevent it. The same goes for racist immigration policies fueled by hysterical newspapers, insane warmongering and every bad thing that a majority of people could want. Majority rule is a bad thing; that is why America (for example) was set up as a Democratic Republic where people have guaranteed rights and not a pure democracy.

AV is a recipe for tyranny, and the best arguments for it are childish like this one. I don’t want beer or coffee, and I do not want other people to vote on what I should or should not drink, or how I should dispose of my rubbish, or who I should marry, or wether or not I should carry an ID Card (80% of people in early polls were FOR the ID Card because they did not know its true nature. AV could have brought it in).

The people who run this country have you asking the wrong question; the important thing is not how the politicians are elected, but that they should be elected at all, and when (if) they are, what powers they should have over you and your private property.

Not really. Under FPTP, redheads could be outlawed if 30% wanted it.

You’ve made some reasonable points, but they apply to government as a whole and the limits on its powers, not AV vs FPTP. Your arguments against AV are invalid, as they apply at least as strongly to FPTP.
