Israel doesn’t want a just peace

Norm Geras on Israeli settlements:

Likewise the Netanyahu government’s desire to allow ‘natural growth’ for Jewish settlements on the West Bank. From the very beginning these settlements have represented an obstacle to peace between Israelis and Palestinians, to a lasting and just resolution of the conflict and a two-state solution.

Norm is right here. But he doesn’t draw the obvious conclusion — that Israel doesn’t want a just resolution. What the Israeli government wants is to take the Palestinians land and expel them. And since all Israeli governments have supported settlement building, this intention is evidently the settled will of the Israeli elite and people.

While Zionism isn’t intrinsicly racist, every Zionist government has in practise been racist, so regardless of theory, “actual existing Zionism” (to coin a phrase) is racist.
