Terrorist or nutter?

I remember shortly after 9/11 there was a news report of someone flying a plane into a building in Florida. The report said they didn’t know yet whether it had been done by a terrorist or a nutter, and I thought it’s not as if the two categories are necessarily distinct.

Bruce Schneier reports on someone who is clearly a would-be terrorist and a nutter — hatching an utterly absurd terrorist plot:

Batiste confided, somewhat fantastically, that he wanted to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago, which would then fall into a nearby prison, freeing Muslim prisoners who would become the core of his Moorish army. With them, he would establish his own country.
