Buy your totally unoffical Olympic T-shirt

Posted by cabalamat on 2008-Aug-03

To commemorate the human rights record of the Chinese government, and the International Olympic Committee’s apparent unconcern with it, I’ve created an exclusive range of “tank man” T-shirts and other apparel.

Be the envy of your friends and wear your own Olympic “tank man” T-shirt. Remember this is a LIMITED TIME offer, since, although I am not breaking any law, the International Olympic Committee will probably try to get me shut down.

Here’s one of the T shirts:

I was going to sell these from my store on Cafepress, but unfortunately they’ve shut it down. So instead I’m making available the raw images and you can go to an online t-shirt printing shop with them yourselves (I recommend Spreadshirt). If you do decide to do this, I’d like to ask you to donate some money — say $10 — to Amnesty International.

  1. Aren’t the Olympic rings (and maybe the Beijing 2008 logo as well) copyrighted?

QuestionThat: Aren’t the Olympic rings (and maybe the Beijing 2008 logo as well) copyrighted?

The rings are the IOC’s intellectual property (I think it’s trademark rather than copyright). Note the the reverse-field version (black background) doesn’t actually contain the olympic rings because it contains a white ring instead of a black one.

    Jennie,

I’d best add — for the avoidance of doubt — that I’m not claiming to have invented the idea.

Most excellent graphic. Congrats on the concept (even if you didn’t invent it)
