On Margaret Thatcher’s state funeral

There has been speculation as to whether Margaret Thatcher should get a state funeral.
Some of my friends are of the opinion “yes, as soon as possible”. I think this is unnecessarily harsh.
But if she is to have a state funeral, it would be fitting if it was done in accordance with her political legacy: it should be put out to compulsory competitive tender, with the lowest bid getting the contract. My bid will involve the building of a combined mausoleum/dance hall which will of course be privately owned and run on a for-profit basis.

My bid, which also encompasses a urinal, will be more profitable.

The urinal idea is a good one. Which just confirms to me that privatization is the correct way to go here. Let’s remove the dead hand of the State from Maggie’s State funeral — it’s what she would have wanted!
