Some religious thinking is deluded; maybe all is?

Bel is thinking this:

9/11

The 19 suicide-bombing hijackers are today marking their sixth anniversary in hell.

Poor souls, and they thought they were set for paradise. Six years of torment done, ages more to follow.

Still, they have forever to get used to it.

They thought they were going to paradise; Bel thinks they went to hell instead.  Clearly not everyone can be right here.

Let’s generalise that thought: there are lots of religions. They say things that are incompatible with each other, therefore they cannot all be right. Some of them must be wrong — maybe all are wrong?

Can Bel prove that her religious beliefs are right and the beliefs of others are wrong? Can religious believers even prove that “paradise” and “hell” exist anyway — I mean prove as strongly as I can prove that London or Moscow exist.

Regardless of whatever beliefs anyone may hold, if there is a ‘paradise’, barring any last minute repentance, it is very unlikely that these murderous terrorists are in it. And if, as muslims insist on telling us all the time, ‘islam is a religion of peace’, surely the gates to paradise will be firmly shut against those who practice and delight in violence.

I suppose the main question should not be whether or not these people are in hell, but whether or not hell exists.

Thanks for the link. I would never have discovered this fine blog otherwise. I shall visit more often. :)

That’s certainly a question that needs to be answered before concerning oneself with who is in hell.

    Glad you like my blog.

BTW, I didn’t answer your message earlier because it was in my moderation queue (This is an anti-spam measure: the 1st message from a person is queued, and when it is moderated as OK then subsequent messages from the same person are automatically accepted). What should happen is wordpress should email me when there is something in the queue, so I can moderate it. Unfortunately wordpress didn’t this time.
